Solar eclipse of July 22, 2009 | Surya Grahan 2009

Posted by Anuradha Tuesday, July 21, 2009

The solar eclipse of July 22, 2009 will be the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century, lasting at most 6 minutes, 39 seconds.[1] It has caused tourist interest in eastern China and India.

The eclipse is part of saros series 136, like the record-setting Solar eclipse of July 11, 1991. The next event from this series will be on August 2, 2027.The exceptional duration is a result of the moon being near perigee, with the apparent diameter of the moon 8% larger than the sun (magnitude 1.080).

This will be the second in the series of three eclipses in a month, with the lunar eclipse on July 7 and the lunar eclipse on August 6.

Duration

This solar eclipse will be the longest total solar eclipse that will occur in the 21st century, and will not be surpassed in duration until June 13, 2132. Totality will last for up to 6 minutes and 39 seconds, with the maximum eclipse occurring in the ocean at 02:35:21 UTC about 100 km south of the Bonin Islands, southeast of Japan. The uninhabited North Iwo Jima island is the landmass with totality time closest to maximum, while the closest inhabited point is Akusekijima, where the eclipse will last 6 minutes and 26 seconds.

Wife Carrying Championships 2009 (15 pics)

Posted by Anuradha Monday, July 13, 2009

Over thirty couples all over the world attended the event and compete on a 235.5 metre long obstacle course who is the fastest to carry his wife around the course.

This 32-meter high sculpture of Audi was created by designer Gerry Judah for the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2009. The sculpture shows two Audis: one vintage and the modern one that fly up to the sky.

This pyramidal house designed by the architect Makoto Tanijiri is quite unusual and non conventional, that’s not something you see everyday! At first, you could think that it’s a house from the future but on the contrary, it’s a house inspired by the earliest houses in Japan architecture.

Apart from its shape, the house is sunk a meter into the ground and the soil from excavations was used to make a kind of barrier all around the house. In fact, the clients wanted something open with natural light but they also wanted to keep their privacy.

The sunken floor is for the living, kitchen and dining areas, the first floor is for the bedroom and bathroom and there is also a terrace. The second floor is the children's bedroom.
I find the architecture interesting but really weird at the same time, so I don’t know if I could live in such house! And what about you? Could you see yourself living in it?

The greatest television show evar

Posted by Anuradha Sunday, July 12, 2009

I have no idea what TV show this is or when it took place or why it is happening, but whatever show at one point had Venezuelan beauty queen (and WAG, of course) Aida Yespica dancing around topless in a thong while using a hand bra is immediately christened The Greatest Televsion Show Evar. Any arguments?
